Template:Film The Tree of Life is an 2011 drama written and directed by Terrence Malick and starring Sean Penn, Brad Pitt, and Jessica Chastain. The film uses experimental elements to chronicle the possible origins and meaning of life as observed through a middle-aged man's childhood memories. Focusing on his family living in 1950s Texas, and peppered with with imagery of the origins of the universe and the inception of life on Earth, Malick endeavors to take a new approach in making this film.
